Sordo turns fighter for Citroen return

Dani Sordo says it will be no more Mr Nice Guy when he returns to the factory Citroen line-up for next season’s FIA World Rally Championship.

The ace Spaniard has never climbed onto the top step of the podium in 98 WRC starts but has vowed to fight for victories in 2013.

“I come back to Citroen older and with more confidence,” said the 29-year-old. “I have new goals now: I want to fight for victories, fight for the top position and I want to help Citroen win the manufacturers’ championship. If I don’t win next year, then I am going home.”

Sordo, who will partner Mikko Hirvonen at Citroen where Khalid Al-Qassimi and Sebastien Loeb will also tackle selected rounds, is no stranger to the French make’s DS3 WRC having undertaken some of the early development running in 2010 prior to his switch to the Prodrive-run MINI squad for 2011.

“The car has moved on since then and I didn’t drive the new evolution,” said Sordo, who is scheduled to test for Rallye Monte-Carlo in late December. “It’s fantastic to be back and have everybody here waiting for me.”
