Sordo: level of IRC drivers is very high

Dani Sordo has praised the strong level of competition he faced on his debut in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge on Giru di Corsica-Tour de Corse and says he can understand why the IRC appeals to fans and drivers alike.

Sordo, a regular in the World Rally Championship since 2005, claimed victory ahead of Jan Kopecký and Pierre Campana following three days of thrilling action on the picturesque Mediterranean island in his MINI John Cooper Works S2000.

But the Spaniard insisted his victory had been hard-fought against tough opposition. “I’m happy to win this rally but the first position was really hard to achieve because the other drivers are really strong. In all championships when you want to compete for the victory it’s a high level and the top drivers in the IRC are, for sure, at a high level.”

Sordo said he’s unsure of making further IRC appearances this year but wouldn’t rule it out: “For my position now maybe it’s not good to come back because I have to keep winning now! To be honest it was really good fun. There are lot of drivers who are really fast, especially on Tarmac. I enjoy a lot and these battles are very good for television, it’s good for the spectators and mostly it’s good for the drivers.”
