Solberg ready to defend his 2nd place

Petter Solberg moved up from 4th to 2nd place overall today in Rally de Espana and took another stage win in the process.

The Citroën privateer climbed on the provisional podium as early as this morning’s opening stage and then benefitted from Sébastien Ogier’s mistake on the following stage to move up another place.

Quite unhappy with his C4, Solberg made some changes at the end of the first loop and felt better in the afternoon. It allowed him to push hard and set the fastest time on the final stage of the day to keep a charging Dani Sordo at bay.

Solberg will start the rally’s final leg with a 16-second margin over the Spaniard and vows to fiercely defend his position.

“It feels extremely good to finish the day in second place”, he said. “I said yesterday that I was going for second today, so I’m sticking to my plan. We lost some time this morning but other than that I am very happy with the result. I am really looking forward to having a proper fight with Dani tomorrow. I know he will be pushing, but I will do whatever I can to keep my place.”

Two loops of two stages will be run tomorrow.
