While Marco Tempestini will be bidding for top honours in the IRC Production Cup on the Prime Yalta Rally, his 18-year-old son Simone will be out to gain more experience behind the wheel of his Subaru Impreza.

The trip to Ukraine will mark the first time that Tempestini Jr has competed outside of Romania where he has enjoyed a strong run of results in the country’s national rally championship of late. Having started in competition at 16, it wasn’t until last month that the youngster was eligible to obtain his road licence.

He states his goal on this week’s Intercontinental Rally Challenge qualifier is to gain experience of competing on an international event without being under any pressure to achieve a significant result.

“It’s a complete new rally for me,” said Tempestini Jr, who will be co-driven by the Italian Lucio Baggio. “I’ve heard that the stages are very technical and slippery but I will make my own opinion after the recce. The goal is to finish the rally and to find a good rhythm on the stages. Of course we will try to increase our speed and we will enjoy every kilometre of these stages.”
