San Marino official highlights IRC importance

Fabio Beradi, the Secretary of State for San Marino, has highlighted the importance of last week’s Intercontinental Rally Challenge event to Europe’s oldest sovereign state.

San Marino was a new addition to the IRC for this season and produced a dramatic battle for victory between Giandomenico Basso and Andreas Mikkelsen.

Beradi said: “San Marino has a great history of motorsport drivers and special events so it’s important to have another great event like the IRC in our territory. A lot of people follow this rally and we are proud to continue this tradition.”

While all but one of the rally’s stages took place across the border in Italy, San Marino hosted the ceremonial start and finish, service park and the exciting street stage run under the cover of darkness at the end of the opening day of competition.
