SS6: Campana closes on second place in

A thrilling battle for second place is raging on Giru di Corsica-Tour de Corse with Pierre Campana trimming Jan Kopecký’s advantage to 3.0s following the 23.24-kilometre Barchetta-La Porta stage.

Campana, whose Munaretto Peugeot 207 Super 2000 has been fitted with a replacement gearbox tulip following an earlier fault, was 1.3s faster than his ŠKODA Motorsport rival.

Out front Dani Sordo continues to lead on his Intercontinental Rally Challenge debut after setting the pace in his MINI John Cooper Works S2000. The Spaniard’s margin is now 25.7s.

“The time was good and I am happy,” said Sordo. “We take a bit more gap with the others but I don’t feel I drive very well in this stage and the car was understeering.”

Bryan Bouffier was fifth quickest with fellow Peugeot driver Craig Breen climbing to eighth overall after setting the sixth fastest time.

Former leader Andreas Mikkelsen is up to sixth place as he recovers from the time lost with a puncture on the previous stage. The ŠKODA UK driver was 2.7s slower than Sordo through the run. “I’m just trying to get my confidence up and find a good rhythm,” said the Norwegian.

There was disappointment for Julien Maurin with the French driver reported to have gone off the road in his M-Sport Ford Fiesta S2000.
