Dani Sordo has recorded his first fastest stage time on this year’s RallyRACC-Rally de Espana.
The Spaniard’s performance on his home round of the WRC has halted Jari-Matti Latvala’s run of wins by going quickest on the penultimate stage of day two, the 12.27-kilometre Riba-roja d’Ebre test.
Driving a MINI John Cooper Works WRC, Sordo was 2.3s faster than event leader Sebastien Loeb to close to within 32.5s of third-placed Mikko Hirvonen.
Loeb, in a Citroen DS3 WRC, now heads Ford Fiesta RS WRC driver Latvala by 29.8s in the battle for first place. Hirvonen, level on points with Loeb in the drivers’ standings is now 1m23.1s behind Loeb.
