Prokop hopes GB run will lead to full 2012 bid
Czech SWRC graduate gets Fiesta World Rally Car for season finale
Martin Prokop wants to contest all 13 rounds of next year’s world championship in a top of the range World Rally Car and will start his bid by contesting Wales Rally GB next week in a Ford Fiesta RS WRC.
Prokop, who placed third in the Super 2000 World Rally Championship this season, is switching from a S2000-specification Fiesta to the top of the range World Rally Car equivalent.
He plans to spend the four-day rally learning the car in the hope he can finalise the backing for a full campaign in 2012.
“This race is just a test,” the Czech ace told Wrc.com. “It’s too early to think about some results. I would like to be fast but I’m a privateer and I need to think more for the future. We want to test my ream with the new car and recognise what I should improve for Rallye Monte-Carlo next season.”
Prokop said he was closing on a deal to be an ever-present in next year’s WRC.
“We would like to do it and that’s the dream,” said the 29-year-old. “We are close to achieving a full programme, closer than ever in the past.”
Prokop’s Fiesta will be run by his family team on Rally GB, which spent the week following last month’s RallyRACC-Rally de Espana at M-Sport’s headquarters in northern England building up the car Prokop will use on the world championship finale.
“They will work with the car and find out how to work with it,” Prokop explained. “I will then come to GB and we will do a test before the rally.”
