Ogier keen on more race action

Sebastien Ogier wants to follow in the footsteps of former Citroen team-mate Sebastien Loeb by taking part in more circuit races.

Ogier, who will spearhead Volkswagen Motorsport’s attack on next season’s FIA World Rally Championship in a Polo R WRC, has tackled selected races in the past and even owns his own gearbox kart.

And Ogier’s ambitions could be realised after his team boss Jost Capito said it was possible that his French charge could get an outing in the Volkswagen Scirocco-R Cup this year.

The upcoming rounds of the one-make Scirocco series at Norisring and Nurburgring don’t clash with Ogier’s WRC schedule with the latter taking place just one week prior to ADAC Rallye Deutschland from 17/18 August.

Capito said: “This is not something we talked about with Sebastien yet, but if he wants to go racing then maybe we should put in the Scirocco R-Cup car.”

Ogier reckoned doing more races could aid his performances in the WRC: “It brings something extra to my driving and I enjoyed my circuit racing experience from last year. There are lots of other marques within the Volkswagen Group, such as Audi and Porsche, which go racing so I really hope that the opportunity to drive on a circuit arises this year.”
