Next year can wait, says focused Sordo

Next season will be the last thing on Dani Sordo’s mind when he contests his home round of the FIA World Rally Championship this week.

The Spanish hero’s future in the sport remains unclear ahead of the mixed-surface season finale in Catalunya. However, in order to be fully focused on his outing with the Prodrive WRC Team, Sordo is putting the subject of 2013 to the back of his mind.

“I’d like to announce where I will be next year, but right now I’m 100 per cent focused on the RallyRACC,” said Sordo, who is still chasing his first victory in the WRC. “I’ve pinned a lot of hope in this race. The year could have been better but I will give it all in my home race. I know it well and I will be surrounded by people cheering me [on].”

Sordo has contested a limited programme of world championship rallies this season in a MINI John Cooper Works WRC with the highlight being his second place on Rallye Monte-Carlo at the start of the year. He also won the Power Stage on Vodafone Rally de Portugal back in April having claimed five stage wins earlier in the event.

“I’m happy with my driving performance in 2012 and the RallyRACC must be the culmination of a year in which there’s been a bit of everything,” Sordo added.
