Neuville denies M-Sport switch

Hyundai’s Thierry Neuville has quashed speculation linking him with a return to the M-Sport squad in 2016.

The Belgian left M-Sport for Hyundai at the end of a successful 2013, but recent comments from his former team boss Malcolm Wilson suggested he might call time on his current contract and return to drive a Ford Fiesta RS in 2016.

But in Portugal this afternoon Neuville underlined his commitment to Hyundai, and the new evolution of the i20 World Rally Car which will make its debut next year.

"I think I have been quite clear on this - for sure I will stay with Hyundai next year," he said. "I’m now two years with the team and we are developing something together. Okay, it has taken a bit longer than expected, and it was a bit more difficult, but the future seems to be great for 2016. The new car is coming, we have big hopes and we are looking forward to it."

Wilson, meanwhile, clarified the comments that had been reported in the British press. He said: "I’ve made no secret of the fact that he did a great job and worked well with the team. All I said is that if I have the budget and with the manufacturer backing again I would try and secure his services.

"I’m very happy with my young guys - don’t get me wrong - but when it comes to future signings I always look at everybody. I just mentioned that if I was in the position, that’s what I would do," he added.
