Monzón thrilled to win Colin McRae IRC Flat Out Trophy
"I don’t find the words for this"
Luis Monzón says winning the Colin McRae IRC Flat Out Trophy on Rally Islas Canarias El Corte Inglés is a “maximum feeling”.
Monzón finished third overall on the Intercontinental Rally Challenge qualifier in a Peugeot 207 Super 2000, which he had not driven for four years.
While the Spaniard, a two-time Rally Islas Canarias winner, has extensive knowledge of the stages in Gran Canaria, his succession of top three stage times throughout the event made him the number one choice of the judging panel consisting of the IRC’s Jean-Pierre Nicolas, Eurosport’s Gilbert Roy and Colin McRae’s father Jimmy McRae.
“I don’t find the words for this,” said Monzón. “Colin McRae for me was the best driver in the world. To receive this trophy is the maximum feeling.”
Prior to making the presentation to Monzón, Nicolas said: “He has done a fantastic performance, always fighting with the top drivers and not doing any mistakes.”
