Michelisz takes lead in Yokohama Trophy

Norbert Michelisz is the new leader of the Yokohama Trophy after the two races in Brazil. At Curitiba, the Hungarian driver and his BMW 320 TC car were classified fourth in Race 1 and later managed to win the second race.

These results, joint to the negative weekend experienced by Pepe Oriola who did not score in any of the races following a time penalty for overspeeding during the rolling start and an engine failure, meant that Michelisz is now leading the standings by five points.

“It was a great result. In the second race I also enjoyed to keep the overall lead for a few laps, but I knew I could not resist the pressure from Tarquini and the Chevrolet cars. Eventually I let them pass, because I did not want to take any risks. All it mattered for me was to win the Yokohama Trophy and benefit from Pepe’s problems,” Michelisz commented.

Behind Michelisz and Oriola, Stefano D’Aste is still lying in third position, but the Italian driver collected only two points in Brazil and his gap from the lead was stretched to 36 points. With a second and a fifth in Curitiba races, Alex MacDowall climbed to fourth in the standings, 12 points behind D’Aste.
