Freddy Loix’s navigator Frédéric Miclotte says the Belgian’s victory on Rali Vinho Madeira last weekend was one of his best performances in a rally car.

Loix, who moved into fifth place in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge drivers’ standings following his second win in as many IRC starts this season, completed the entire event, which totalled almost 300 competitive kilometres, with an injured shoulder, which he dislocated falling off his motorbike two weeks before the event.

Miclotte said: “We were a bit surprised to be leading after two stages because we came with an idea that maybe we could go for a podium because of Freddy’s physical condition and because we didn’t test a lot with the car before the start. But he controlled it very well and we’re very happy. It was a very impressive drive.”

Loix and Miclotte will return to IRC action on Barum Czech Rally Zlín, which runs from 27-29 August. Their victory in Madeira was the fifth scored by a Škoda Fabia S2000 in the IRC this season and enabled Loix to equal Kris Meeke’s record of five IRC event wins.
