Light damage only for Block fiesta
Following a crash on Rally Spain’s final leg
Ken Block’s Monster World Rally Team Ford Fiesta RS WRC suffered only minimal damage when the Gymkhana FOUR star crashed out on the final day of RallyRACC-Rally de Espana last week.
However, with the car ending up off the road, Block and co-driver Alex Gelsomino we forced to retire having covered three kilometres of Sunday’s first test, which took place in the dark.
A statement from Block’s team said: “After a solid effort and some quick times on Saturday’s stages, MWRT’s Ken Block and Alex Gelsomino were gearing themselves up for a solid, final day of racing [in] Spain. While most-likely unable to score points or move too far up the standings after coming back under SuperRally rules following Friday’s incident, Block was ready to continue building on his Tarmac rally experience. Unfortunately, things didn’t go according to plan, Block found himself off course. The car, while minimally damaged, was unable to be brought back onto the road to continue due to its location.”
It’s not clear what caused Block to hit trouble although the team suggested changes to the suspension settings to address the understeer that had hampered its driver on day two and improve cornering speeds.
Block and Gelsomino will be back in action on the final round of the world championship in Great Britain next month.
