Leader Hirvonen crashes on SS4!
A high speed multiple roll
Rally leader Mikko Hirvonen has made a dramatic exit from Friday’s competition in Finland after suffering a high speed multiple roll on SS4.
The Finn barrel rolled his Ford Focus RS WRC 9km from the start line on a right-hand bend 800 metres after the huge jump the Urria stage is renowned for. It’s a corner Mikko has described previously as his favorite in the whole championship.
Both Mikko and his-co-driver Jarmo Lehtinen are uninjured, but their car is reported to be very badly damaged.
Hirvonen’s retirement promoted Petter Solberg into the rally lead, while Jari-Matti Latvala moved up to second and Dani Sordo third.
