Italy’s WRC round remains in Sardinia
Return to Mediterranean island confirmed for October
Sardinia will again host Italy’s round of the World Rally Championship, the country’s motorsport governing body, the ACI, has confirmed.
The all-gravel event, which is popular with fans and crews alike, will take place from 18-21 October and count as the penultimate round of the 2012 season.
Sardinia hosted Italy’s WRC counter for the first time in 2004 following its move from Sanremo on the mainland. Apart from missing out on a round in 2010, the Mediterranean island has been an ever-present in the series.
Full details of the route have yet to be published although a similar format to last year’s event is expected with the rally based in the northern port town of Olbia and taking in stages around Olbia and Oristano to the west.
