IRC set for another dramatic climax
Crews will count their best eight scores
The battle for Intercontinental Rally Challenge title glory is set to go down to the wire once again after IRC promoter confirmed that double points would be awarded on the season-closing Cyprus Rally from 2-3 November.
It means that rather than being awarded 25 points for victory the event winners will receive 50 points. The full points breakdown for the top 10 eligible finishers in all categories is therefore: 50-36-30-24-20-16-12-8-4-2.
Last year’s IRC title was decided in a thrilling five-way fight for the crown on the Mediterranean island when double points were also awarded.
In changes to the IRC Sporting Regulations for 2012, crews will count their best eight scores from a possible 13 while Super 2000 cars produced by a registered IRC manufacturer and powered by a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine with a 30-milimetre restrictor will be eligible for IRC points.
