Harry Hunt can move to the top of the IRC 2WD Cup standings with a strong result on this week’s Targa Florio-Rally Internazionale Di Sicilia but expects a tough fight to do so.

The 2010 IRC 2WD Cup champion moved back into title contention with an impressive third-place finish on Giru di Corsica-Tour de Corse last month. He has never competed in Sicily before and reckons the island-based drivers and those from the Italian mainland will be hard to beat.

“There’s a lot of competition in Sicily, and the local drivers will definitely benefit from their knowledge of the roads,” said the Briton. “I’ve already seen some in-car footage and from what I’ve seen and what others have told me, the roads look to be very fast but slippery too. As the weather will probably be hot, the road surface could soften and make the roads quite rough too.

“I think there will be a lot of changing grip levels and the roads look to be quite technical in places, so we’ll need to ensure the pacenotes are as accurate as possible. Sicily will be a leap into the unknown for us, but it’s always exciting to try something new.”
