Hungary Rally looks forward to IRC debut

The Mecsek Rally, which will form part of the IRC calendar next year after enjoying official Supporter Event status, ran last weekend and proved that it has everything it takes to become a successful round of the IRC.

The mixed surface event, based in the picturesque town of Pecs, contained a wide variety of roads - taking in both narrow sections and wide, flat-out portions - that provided an awesome challenge over 10 special stages.

After a closely-fought two days of competition, local driver Miklos Kazar triumphed, at the wheel of a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9. A similar car, driven by Krisztian Hideg was classified second. The competing crews, who numbered more than 50, enjoyed bright sunshine and fine weather over both days of the rally, watched by thousands of excited fans.

The event will run from 9-11 September next year, on asphalt and gravel, as the ninth round of the 2011 IRC series.
