Henning Solberg rolls on Rally Sweden

Henning Solberg has rolled on day two of Rally Sweden.

The M-Sport Stobart driver, who was four minutes late leaving service due to a powersteering problem, was two kilometres into the 15-kilometre Lesjofors stage when the incident occurred.

Both Solberg and Austrian co-driver Ilka Minor were unharmed although it’s not clear how much damage they inflicted to their Ford Fiesta RS WRC.

Solberg, who started day two in fifth overall following an encouraging start to his rally on Friday, is starting his fifth season with the British M-Sport squad and his second alongside navigator Minor.

Speaking following the incident, Solberg’s team boss Malcolm Wilson said: “Henning made a very impressive show of speed yesterday with two top three stage times. Considering he only tested the Fiesta RS WRC for the first time last weekend, it was a remarkable feat that he and Ilka were able to finish the end of the first full day in the top five of the WRC leaderboard. Henning was four minutes late out of service this morning due to issues with powersteering that the team were trying to sort out and then we received the news that he had rolled two kilometres into the opening stage. We won’t know full details until they’ve returned into service but he and Ilka are both fine.”

It’s currently unclear whether Solberg and Minor will be able to restart on the final day of the event.
