Guerra on course for Argentina

Benito Guerra is optimistic that his sixth place at Rally Mexico last weekend will lead to another world rally car outing this year at Rally Argentina.

Driving a Fiesta RS WRC, the privateer improved on his 2013 result of eighth on his home round of the WRC and finished ahead of three manufacturer team drivers.

“It was very hard but at the end we got sixth overall, my best position ever in the WRC,” Guerra told wrc.com. “This was my first event with the car and I didn’t do any testing so I think the result is good.”

The 2012 Production Car World Rally Champion believes he has done enough to convince his sponsors, led by Rally Mexico’s host state of Guanajuato, that his next WRC event should be May’s round in Argentina.

“I certainly hope so. The media exposure during the rally was fantastic, all over the world, and it’s good for us. My sponsors are very happy and now I need to speak to the Governor and the tourism people in Guanajuato. If everything goes well we will be in Argentina with a Guanajuato car.”

If he does make it to Carlos Paz, he’ll be driving another M-Sport prepared Fiesta RS. “It was nice, a little easier to drive than the DS3 I drove in 2013,” he explained.

“I was pushing a little harder than I usually do as well, and that meant I had one small crash every day. Nothing big, no drama, but I tried to improve with every experience. The car was great, like a battle tank. You hit it and it doesn’t break.”
