Filippi to drive for Coloni in Germany

Luca Filippi will take the wheel of Scuderia Coloni’s #19 car in Nürburgring the upcoming weekend, driving for the Italian team alongside Michael Herck.

Filippi, who at the moment is leading the Auto GP championship, was released by SuperNova for the GP2 programme, and happily took the chance to drive again for Scuderia Coloni.

Luca had already taken the wheel of the Italian team’s car in Imola for the GP2 Asia last round, and
immediately established a great feeling with the team staff: he also boasted an impressive pace in Race 2, recovering 13 places on a track where overtaking is usually deemed as very difficult.

So there are high expectations for his return with the team in Germany, on a track where in 2009, the last time GP2 raced there, the Italian outfit clinched a great 3rd place finish in Race 1.

“I’m happy that a car that should have been driven by Davide Rigon, and that after his injury passed on to Kevin Ceccon, will be driven again by an Italian driver”, says Paolo Coloni. “With Auto GP being in the hottest moment of its season, with two races in 3 weeks, Kevin decided to focus on his main program for the 2011 season, which makes a lot of sense as he is also fighting for the title there. So, for me thinking about Luca to step-in was a pretty natural choice. Pushing the best talents from our Country has always been our philosophy, and I feel that Luca perfectly fits this line”.
