Fans make Kopecky favourite for Canarias IRC glory

Rally fans around the world have backed Jan Kopecký to win Rally Islas Canarias El Corte Inglés this week.

An online poll on the event’s official website shows the ŠKODA Motorsport ace with 41.8 per cent of the public vote. Defending Intercontinental Rally Challenge champion Andreas Mikkelsen has received 22.2 per cent of the vote with two-time Rally Islas Canarias winner Luis Monzón pooling 21.2 per cent.

Kopecký won Rally Islas Canarias when it was included as a round of the IRC for the first time in 2010. The event will mark his first appearance in this year’s IRC alongside co-driver Pavel Dresler.

“Pavel and I can ́t wait to appear in the IRC again,” said Kopecký. “This championship offers top quality and exciting battles for every second, and we want to achieve the best possible result for ŠKODA.”

Rally Islas Canarias El Corte Inglés takes place from 15-17 March and features 15 special stages over a competitive distance of 240.92 kilometres.
