Evans counts on Mills’ Monte advice

M-Sport World Rally Team driver Elfyn Evans will attempt to ward off any potential disasters on his debut Rallye Monte Carlo by recruiting world championship-winning co-driver Phil Mills to his ice note crew.

With weather conditions expected to be treacherous on next week’s WRC opener, Evans has made the decision to call on as much experience as possible to ensure he gets to the finish safely.

Mills and Elfyn’s father, former British Rally Champion, Gwyndaf, will therefore be responsible for supplying the 25-year old with up-to-date reports on stage conditions before he drives them competitively in his Ford Fiesta RS WRC.

Mills is a Monte veteran and tackled the event eight times with Petter Solberg. Gywndaf has Monte Carlo form too and drove an MG ZR S1600 in the 2002 rally. Elfyn’s own experience of Rallye Monte Carlo is limited only to reporting weather conditions to the M-Sport squad last year.

“As well as being a new a rally for me, Monte Carlo will be the first time that I’ll have worked with an ice note crew,” Evans told wrc.com.

“I’ve known Phil for a long time, and my dad has had a lot of dealings with him so they work very well together. It’s a perfect combination for me - a good crew to have.”

Evans tested his Fiesta RS world rally car for one day in France at the weekend, and will have another day at the wheel later this week.
