Dillmann penalised for cutting corner
Frenchman loses point at final corner
Tom Dillmann has lost the point he picked up for finishing this morning’s sprint race at Spa-Francorchamps in eighth position after the race stewards judged him to have exceeded track limits at the Bus Stop corner under pressure from Felipe Nasr.
The Frenchman, who had lost positions in the closing laps of the race, was clearly struggling to hold off a late challenge from Nasr, who was all over his rear wing on the last lap of the race. Coming into the final turn Dillmann ran deep, with Nasr on the outside line and braking hard to avoid him: Dillmann went wide and then continued, cutting the corner and crossing the line ahead of the Brazilian for the final point of the race.
The race stewards have now added one second to Dillmann’s time, handing P8 to Nasr, who closes in on Stefano Coletti’s lead in the drivers’ championship: Nasr is now just five points behind Coletti heading into the next round at Monza, 135 points to 130.
