Delecour to help young rallying talent

If you want to be the best then it’s best to learn from the best. Well that’s what François Delecour’s backers have in mind.

The French legend is chasing a 10-event FIA European Rally Championship campaign in 2013 in a Kronos Racing Peugeot 207 Super 2000 with support from Visit Romania.

As part of the agreement, Delecour will help to train a young Romanian rally driver to one day compete in the ERC, which visits the eastern European country for the Sibiu Rally in July.

“The objective is for me to do all the Romanian championship and most of the ERC but it’s not just about me driving: they also want to help bring on a young Romanian driver who I will be able to mentor as my team mate for the future,” said Delecour.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity that I was given by my sponsors in Romania. Winning the Romanian championship was the key to it; if we had not won the championship then I don’t think the opportunity would have arisen.”

Delecour will start his ERC bid on this week’s International Jännerrallye in Austria.
