Consani’s IRC Production Cup on track
"It’s good for us because Aigner did not finish"
Robert Consani remains in the hunt for the prestigious IRC Production Cup title despite not being eligible to score points on the last two rounds in San Marino and Romania.
Consani is driving a Renault Mégane RS in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. However, because the car is not homologated for use on gravel, Consani switched to a two-wheel-drive Clio R3 for the loose-surface rounds, which means he hasn’t been able to chase IRC Production Cup points of late.
However, with the gap to category leader Andreas Aigner just three points heading to the next IRC round in Czech Republic at the end of August, Consani is still firmly in contention for the coveted crown won by Subaru Impreza driver Toshi Arai in 2011.
“It’s good for us because Aigner did not finish [in Sibiu] and Tempestini could not score points like me so we are in a good position still for the IRC Production Cup,” said Consani, who claimed his maiden IRC 2WD Cup victory in Sibiu to help Renault extend its lead in the IRC 2WD Cup manufacturers’ standings.
