Coloni confirms Filippi for Spa

After a month-long summer break, Scuderia Coloni is ready to get back on track for the grand finale of the 2011 GP2 Main Series.

After recharging their batteries during the August holidays the staff is already at work to arrive in top shape in Spa-Francorchamps, the first of the season’s final two rounds, as well as the drivers: Scuderia Coloni has confirmed its line-up, with Luca Filippi driving alongside Michael Herck. After the great performances boasted in the last two rounds of the championship, the team decided to hand the Italian driver the wheel of the #19 car again.

So, Scuderia Coloni has great expectations for the Belgian round of the Series, one of the most prestigious of the whole season both thanks to its huge historical value (the track hosted its first Grand Prix in 1924) and to its fast and technical layout, a place were only the best drivers and the best cars can reach the top spots.

Obviously this gives the team a further boost to confirm the same amazing competitiveness level showed in Germany and in Hungary, a pace that was worth a win, a 3rd place finish and two first rows in qualifying.

The positive feelings of the team are also confirmed by the past results: in 2010 Spa was the best race of the season for Scuderia Coloni: with an amazing recovery Alvaro Parente passed from P16 to 2nd place in the Feature Race, and missed the win by only two tenths.

Paolo Coloni: “The team arrives in Spa charged-up and confident that our luck has changed. The first part of the season was tough, Rigon’s injury forced us to change our plans but working hard together we managed to overcome all the odds and clinch some great results. I’m very proud of how the team reacted to all the bad luck we had, they deserve to be praised for that.”

“Looking to Spa, we want to be in front, right from Friday. In the last two weekend we missed the pole position just by inches, so now it’s time to clinch it. We also know that both our drivers have what it takes to win: Luca loves Spa and he already got on the podium there, both in GP2 and Auto GP, while it’s worth remembering that Michael took last year’s pole position in Belgium. Then he was penalized for a yellow flag matter, but on track he deserved it because he was the quickest. So, with such premises, we hope for another great weekend”.
