Jan Cerny will be one of the favourites for IRC 2WD Cup glory on Barum Czech Rally Zlín this week.

Cerny, 21, has tackled selected Intercontinental Rally Challenge events in the past at the wheel of a Clio R3. For his home round of the 11-event series, the Czech will switch to an R2-specification ŠKODA Fabia, which he will share with countryman Pavel Kohout.

“It’s a good car,” said Černý of the Impromat Motorsport-run car. “I have done the rally two times before and I like it, I like driving on asphalt.”

Cerny will face stiff competition from Estonian Honda Civic ace Martin Kangur, Czech driver Václav Dunovský, Bulgarian Todor Slavov, Italian Stefano Albertini and Frenchman Jean-Michel Raoux, the current leader of the standings.

Giovanni Vergnano is the lone Abarth driver on the entry at the wheel of a 500 R3T.

Harry Hunt, the defending IRC 2WD Cup champion, had been due to take part but will instead return to the series on Rallye Sanremo at the end of September.
