Breen impresses on Zlín IRC debut

Craig Breen has made a strong impression on his Barum Czech Rally Zlín debut by completing the opening day of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge event in eighth overall.

Irishman Breen, who was seeded 20th in his M-Sport Ford Fiesta S2000, belied his lack of experience of the demanding asphalt rally to climb into a points-paying position with co-driver Gareth Roberts.

“I was a bit too sure of myself before the start because I thought the roads were going to be a lot like what you get back in Ireland,” said the 21-year-old. “But they were proved to be much more difficult to learn. Although I’m pushing hard I’m in my comfort zone and looking good for tomorrow.”

Michał Sołowow is the other leading M-Sport Ford driver. The Pole is 11th overnight.
