Arai: more experience needed

Subaru Impreza R4 driver Toshihiro Arai believes that the experience of local drivers has been a big advantage in the IRC Production Cup over the course of the Canon Mecsek Rallye.

This is only the third event for the new-generation R4 Impreza and Arai has struggled to match the pace of the Hungarian entrants over the fast roads around the historic city of Pécs.

"It’s not been easy," he said, "I’m not experienced on these roads, in this situation. But we’ve found a good setting for today. Yesterday I had no confidence in the car - I could not drive, especially in the narrow places.

"But today it’s getting better. We’ve found a better set-up and we’re learning more about the car. The Hungarian guys know these roads so well, especially the fast sections, they’re hard to catch. But I’m trying!"
