Nasser Al-Attiyah’s hopes of reaching the finish of Rally Argentina appear to be over after the Qatari failed to complete stage 10 of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge qualifier.
Al-Attiyah was in 10th overall prior to starting the Ascochinga-La Cumbre stage, which at 22.40 kilometres is the longest of the rally.
It is understood his Škoda Fabia ingested too much water going through a river crossing and developed a misfire.
He has now returned to the service park in Carlos Paz with his engine in safety mode having not tackled stages 11 and 12.
