Timo Glock allowed to race by stewards

Timo Glock will be allowed to race in tomorrows European Grand Prix, although the German driver failed to partake this afternoons qualifying session due to a stomach bug. The Marussia driver had been plagued with the illness throughout the weekend, and prior to qualifying he suffered a relapse which left only Charles Pic to qualify for Marussia.

However, if Timo Glock is cleared to race in tomorrows European Grand Prix, the stewards have stated that although the German was unable to set a time within the 107% rule during qualifying, he will be allowed to line-up 24th and last on the grid. This is because the 30-year-old has already set timed laps within the 107% rule throughout the three practice sessions, which has shown the race stewards he would’ve successfully qualified had he been well enough to take part.

With Marussia unable to find a replacement due to the short notice of Glock’s unavailability, Charles Pic was the only Marussia who took part in qualifying earlier today. The French rookie could only manage 23rd and last in Q1, 103.895% within Sebastian Vettel’s time in the opening session of qualifying.

If Timo Glock wishes to return to racing tomorrow, he will have to be cleared by the FIA’s medical delegate who will determine whether the German is well enough to partake in the race.
