Q&A with Christian Horner, Red Bull Team Principal
"We will continue to support our two drivers equally"
As Team Principal, how do you motivate the team after its first non-finish of the season?
"This has been an amazing year for Red Bull Racing during a fascinating and exciting Championship. Within the team there is a huge amount of determination and, whilst ultimately the result in Korea – our first double non-finish since 2008 – was desperately disappointing, there are many positives that we can take from the weekend. It was a track that people predicted wouldn’t suit Red Bull, yet we qualified first and second and we allayed any doubts about the performance of our car in wet conditions. The strategy and pit-stop on Sunday were spot on and Sebastian was doing an excellent job of managing the race from the front. The result was disappointing; it was gracious of Renault to publicly apologise, but as a team we win together and lose together and will bounce back strongly in Brazil."
What’s the team’s plan for the final two races of the season?
"We will look to maximise our performance at both Grand Prix and will be aiming to add to our seven grand prix race victories that we have already achieved this season."
There has been a lot of speculation about whether Red Bull Racing will favour one driver over the other for the final two races. What’s your position on this?
"We have two fantastic drivers and we will continue to support both equally in line with Red Bull’s credible sporting ethos. As we saw in Korea it is impossible to predict what will happen with five drivers being so closely in contention. For example, with ten laps to go Sebastian had moved into the lead of the Championship, with Alonso then moving into the lead following our bad luck. It just goes to show that situations can change very quickly. Ultimately as we now approach the end of the Championship, the mathematics will speak for themselves and I’m certain that both drivers will do everything possible to achieve the best result for the team."
Can Red Bull Racing still win one or both Championships?
"Absolutely."
