Pastor Maldonado: This season feels (…)

After taking his maiden Grand Prix victory in last weekends Spanish Grand Prix, Venezuelan driver Pastor Maldonado has silenced critics who have called him a pay driver. After the first five races, the sport has seen five different winners for five different teams and Maldonado has likened this season to the sports support series GP2.

As a previous Champion of the GP2 Series, Pastor Maldonado is now full of confidence that he can become one of Formula 1’s best drivers. Last season Williams were only able to achieve 5 World Championship points, and already in 2012 they have scored 43 points which has included one pole-position and one race victory.

The next round of the Championship sees the F1 fraternity head to the Principality of Monaco for the 71st running of the Monaco Grand Prix. Williams haven’t taken victory around the Monte-Carlo street circuit since 2003, however when asked about the possibilities of victory around Monaco, Pastor Maldonado seemed highly confident.

“We will certainly do our best.” Explained the Venezuelan driver, “Our package is definitely getting better and although we don’t have the quickest car right now, we are improving very quickly. I have always liked Monaco and after Sunday I am certainly full of confidence.

“This season feels a bit like GP2 with the driver being able to play a big part in the performance of the car.” Continued Maldonado, “The tyres also allow teams to play around with different strategies so there is always the opportunity to move up if you take a gamble.”

Pastor Maldonado has won twice before in his career around Monaco, both in the GP2 Series. With Monaco being one of his favorite tracks on the F1 calendar, we could well be seeing a lot more of the Williams driver throughout this years Monaco Grand Prix.
