No further action to be taken against

It has been confirmed by the race stewards that no further action will be taken against Red Bull, after the Milton Keynes-based outfit were called to the stewards regarding an irregularity with the teams engine torque maps. This decision means Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber will receive no further penalties prior to the race.

A statement from the race stewards explained that although they did not accept all of Red Bull’s arguments, they did not break the rules as they are written in article 5.5.3 of the sports technical regulations.

“The Stewards received a report from the FIA Technical Delegate [Jo Bauer], along with specific ECU data from Red Bull Racing Cars 1 [Sebastian Vettel] and 2 [Mark Webber]. The stewards met with the team representatives and the representative of the engine supplier Renault.

“While the Stewards do not accept all the arguments of the team, they however conclude that as the regulation is written, the map presented does not breach the text of Article 5.5.3 of the Formula One Technical Regulations and therefore decide to take no further action.”

Due to this decision, Sebastian Vettel will start alongside pole man Fernando Alonso in 2nd position, whereas the German’s team-mate Mark Webber will start 8th after incurring a 5-place grid penalty for a gearbox change earlier in the weekend.
