Malaysian Grand Prix suspended due to torrential rain

With the threat of rain looming over the Sepang International Circuit for the majority of the weekend, the rain has finally materialized and has struck the track forcing the Malaysian Grand Prix which is only 9 laps old to be delayed.

The race initially started under green flag conditions, contrary to many who believed the race would be started under Safety Car conditions. However as the race progressed, the rain intensified forcing the majority of the field to pit for the Cinturato full wet tyres.

Romain Grosjean was the first casualty of the race as he spun his Lotus into the gravel, as Michael Schumacher lost many places on lap 1 as he collided with the Frenchman.

The safety car was deployed as the track became un-drivable, with Jenson Button likening parts of the track to a river. At first the race director red flagged the race, however that decision was quickly cancelled. In the end it became too wet for even Safety Car conditions, and the race has been red flagged with only 9 laps completed.

As it stands Lewis Hamilton is in the lead followed by Jenson Button and the Sauber of Sergio Perez. HRT will be getting altitude sickness as they are currently running in 10th place with Narain Karthikeyan.
