Jean-Eric Vergne confident on remaining a Toro Rosso driver

Formula 1 rookie Jean-Eric Vergne is confident on remaining a Toro Rosso driver for next season, amid continued speculation surrounding the remaining twelve seats towards the rear of the pack. However, the general belief within the paddock is that both Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne will remain at Toro Rosso for 2013.

With the likes of Nico Hulkenberg hinted at moving to Sauber and Paul di Resta rumored at staying with Force India, both Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne have remained relatively quiet within the driver market. After a tough start to the season, the Toro Rosso duo have recently vastly improved in competitiveness, with regular points finishes since the Singapore Grand Prix last month.

This recent resurgence in form for the Faenza-based outfit could well be the requirement for another season with the team for both Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne, who surprisingly replaced Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari at the start of the season. However, since the rocky beginning all has seemed well within the team, with Jean-Eric Vergne in particular confident of remaining a Toro Rosso driver, largely due to his contract with Red Bull.

I haven’t thought about it really.” Explained Jean-Eric Vergne, when asked about his future in Formula 1. “So far I have a contract with Red Bull. I think I just have to keep doing the job I’m doing and improve myself every race weekend and I’ll think about this race weekend and Abu Dhabi and then think about next season, but I’m quite confident about staying with Toro Rosso and that’s what I would love.”

Jean-Eric Vergne currently sits 17th in the Drivers’ Championship with 12 points, three more than team-mate Daniel Ricciardo below him. With Red Bull backing, the Frenchman will more than likely remain at Toro Rosso for at least one more season, however his future after that remains solely on how much he can improve during his second season in the sport.
