Lewis Hamilton is looking to take victory at the first ever race around the Circuit of the Americas next weekend, when Formula 1 returns to the United States for the first time since 2007. Back then it was Lewis Hamilton who also took victory, which was only his second race win of his career.

After an absence of five years in the United States, Formula 1 will finally make a glorious return next weekend as the sport prepares to race around the brand-new purpose-built Circuit of the Americas near Austin in Texas. This track, like many others on the calendar, has been designed by acclaimed architect Hermann Tilke, and features many corners similar to other legendary circuits around the world.

With Lewis Hamilton preparing for his final two races as a McLaren driver, the Briton is understandably eager to clinch victory one last time before making the move to Mercedes. Although the ever-dominant Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso remain locked in a grueling Championship battle, the 2008 World Champion certainly has ideas on stealing the show come race day.

“It’s crazy to think that the last United States Grand Prix was five years ago!” Exclaimed Lewis Hamilton, “It’s a race I still remember like yesterday, though – the nervy anticipation as I drove into the Speedway for the very first time, the thousands of supportive fans, and the fantastic car I had beneath me that enable me to take my second Grand Prix victory in the space of a week. For me, those were incredible, thrilling times.

“I think the Circuit Of The Americas looks like it could also be the place that modern Formula 1 finally calls home. This is a new circuit, a new challenge and a new opportunity – I’m definitely looking to be the first Grand Prix winner at the Circuit Of The Americas.”

Lewis Hamilton was dealt a cruel blow at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last time out, as the Briton was struck with another mechanical issue whilst comfortably leading the race. This gifted Kimi Raikkonen the lead and eventual race victory, as Hamilton suffered his fifth retirement of the season. However, the Briton will be striving for a different result next weekend as he aims to take what would be a historic victory around the new Circuit of the Americas.
