Zero to hero time for Loeb in the WTCC
"The target will be to do better than last year"
Sébastien Loeb has revealed that his zero experience of FIA World Touring Car Championship action held him back in 2014 – but says that it’s now time to be a hero and fight for more victories.
Loeb, who switched to the WTCC as a nine-time world rally champion, scored two race wins on his way to third in the final table behind his Citroën Racing team-mates José María López and Yvan Muller last year. He starts his second season as one of several title contenders in his Citroën C-Elysée WTCC.
“The target will be to do better than last year,” said Loeb, who turns 40 tomorrow (Thursday). “Last year I had to learn everything and I just hope I learn enough and I will be able to use all these experiences to improve my driving and to be fighting more for the victory. For sure these drivers are really strong and although I finished third behind Yvan and Pechito, it could have been better.”
Asked what he needs to do to be better, Loeb said: “I started from zero last year and it’s really strange for a rally driver to be on track with other cars. I did more mistakes than the others but I think this was because I was disturbed by the other cars. Now I am trying to be better.”
