Tiago Monteiro to participate in the 63rd Macau Grand Prix
"Running in Macau is always a great privilege"
Tiago Monteiro will take part in the 63rd edition of the Macau Grand Prix, which will take place from November17 to 20 on the famous Guia circuit. On the occasion of this prestigious competition, the Portuguese driver will be behind the wheel of a Honda from the West Coast Racing team in the TCR International Series Championship. For this event, Tiago will team up with former Formula 1 driver Gianni Morbidelli and Mikhail Grachev. Contrary to his usual number, Tiago will drive car #81, the reverse of his WTCC race number, 18, which has already been given to another driver.
The last time Tiago Monteiro participated in the Macau street race was back in 2014 as part of the FIA WTCC World Touring Car Championship where he experienced both glory and disappointment. After leading the event from start to finish, Tiago had the sad misfortune of losing the victory just three corners before the checkered flag. "Running in Macau is always a great privilege, but this time it’s an even bigger adventure because I want to exact my revenge on the race win that eluded me in WTCC," confirmed Tiago. "It’s a natural motivation, especially since I’ve had quite a lot of success since I was in TCR. So I think we can do great things in Macau. The car is very efficient, pleasant to drive and competitive, but Macao is a difficult track on which anything can happen."
Tiago knows that the competition will be daunting and that he should not expect an easy time in Macau. "The level of competitiveness is very high in the international TCR, the drivers are experienced and they have the advantage of having participated in the entire championship. I will do my best and if I can fight at the front it will be very good and it is my intention, but if not, I will try to take some pleasure from it and put on a good show and enjoy the experience. The TCR championship will be played out in Macao and I do not want to risk disrupting the race for the title contenders," concluded Tiago.
