Rådström to support Sandell in Corsica

New Intercontinental Rally Challenge recruit Patrik Sandell has called on Thomas Rådström to help his bid for a podium finish on Tour de Corse-E.Leclerc this week in his Škoda Sweden Fabia Super 2000.

Rådström, one of Sweden’s most experienced rally drivers, will form part of Sandell’s safety note crew on the all-asphalt contest, which starts in Calvi tomorrow afternoon.

Safety note crews are a regular feature on Tarmac events. They drive through stages approximately one hour before they go ‘live’ to check for any hazards and areas of caution.

The information they gather will be reported back to the competing co-driver, who may include the additional details in his or her pacenotes.

Rådström explained: “I haven’t done gravel notes myself before, but for years I’ve had others doing it for me so I know quite well what kind of information the driver wants from me.”

Sandell, who will be co-driven by Staffan Parmander during his IRC campaign, said: “It’s extremely important to have an experienced [safety note] team, so they don’t report every single grain of sand or puddle they see. That would only confuse me and make me go slower. But with Thomas’ experience I am pretty relaxed when it comes to that.”
