IRC ace Neuville confirms Cyprus (...)

Thierry Neuville has confirmed his place in the six-way fight for the Intercontinental Rally Challenge in Cyprus next month after Team Peugeot Belgium-Luxembourg lodged an entry on the mixed-surface event for the rising star of the IRC.

Neuville, currently third in the IRC standings, will contests the Pafos-based event from 3-5 November in a Peugeot 207 Super 2000 co-driven by fellow Belgian Nicolas Gilsoul.

"The current championship standings, which do not reflect the quality of Thierry’s performances, mean that he is not the favourite to win the IRC drivers’ title,” said Team Peugeot Belgium-Luxembourg’s Adelheid Terryn. “Various factors, which do not just depend on our crew and our team, would have to come together for him to be crowned champion. Having said that, the chance exists. In motorsport, we believe that every challenge - however arduous - has to be seen through to the end. The decision to go to Cyprus is a reflection of the commitment we have put into our 2011 IRC programme."

The 23-year-old Neuville, who won Tour de Corse-E.Leclerc and Rallye Sanremo earlier this year, said: “I couldn’t hope for a better present at the end of the year! To tell the truth, where would I be today if Peugeot Belgium Luxembourg had not believed in me? Thanks to them I’ve driven some good rallies and gathered experience that will benefit me throughout my career. Thanks to the exceptional motivation of our entire team, everything is possible.”
