Breen cracks on at Rallye Monte-Carlo
"Our Ford Fiesta was slipping and sliding around all over the place"
Consistency ruled Craig Breen’s (IRE) third day at Rallye Monte-Carlo. The 2011 FIA WRC Academy winner, navigated by Welshman Gareth Roberts, started the day determined to put in strong times as he continued to get to know the unpredictable stages.
A incorrect tyre choice complicated matters but - never to be defeated - Breen confidently tackled the opening two stages of the day effortlessly mastering any difficulties created by poor grip: "Possibly we made the wrong tyre choice - for SS11 and SS12 we chose winter tyres which didn’t work well. We should’ve been on super softs, our Ford Fiesta was slipping and sliding around all over the place, but we’re here and we’re learning!"
With the afternoon only featuring one competitive stage, Breen was eager to get to the Monaco Parc Fermé unperturbed. However, he suffered yet another front left puncture after clipping - a bridge, a frustrating note in an otherwise positive day: "We picked up another front left puncture on SS13, that’s our fourth puncture this weekend and the third on the front left! We lost about 50 seconds because of it, it’s unbelievable. Otherwise though, it’s still great just to be here and I’m really loving the rally."
