Bahrain remains hopeful its cancelled 2026 Formula 1 grand prix can yet be reinstated, despite renewed conflict in the Gulf.

Formula 1 has already indicated a decision on whether to restore any cancelled races must be made before the summer break, with Bahrain widely regarded as the leading candidate for a return.

Bahrain’s Minister of Sustainable Development, Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif, has now confirmed discussions are continuing.

"There is the talks about maybe plugging in some of the races that were cancelled back into the calendar," she told Reuters.

"No confirmation still on that, but potentially."

The comments come as renewed hostilities involving Iran have again raised doubts over regional stability, with reports on Sunday of missile and drone attacks across several Gulf states, including Bahrain.

Despite the deteriorating security situation, Formula 1 sources continue to identify the October 3-4 weekend as the most likely slot should the Bahrain GP be reinstated.
