Mark Webber: The layout looks awesome

Mark Webber is eager to begin track action around the brand-new Circuit of the Americas this weekend, with the Australian driver already stating that the track layout looks “awesome”. Although this track has once again been designed by Hermann Tilke, it is believed by many that the track will be one of his toughest to crack.

Despite Red Bull’s recent run of superlative form at the front, the United States Grand Prix will be a step into the unknown for all concerned. This could level the playing field slightly, as both Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel strive to quickly learn the Circuit of the Americas before attacking the circuit during qualifying and the race. Any hiccups during practice like last time out at Abu Dhabi could prove detrimental.

“Regarding the new track, it’s unproven in terms of what we need to do with the car there.” Explained Mark Webber, “We will have a reasonable idea before we turn a wheel, but we’ve got to get into the nitty-gritty from our simulations. We need to see track temperatures and how the asphalt is for the car in terms of grip - we’ve got a lot of unanswered questions which we only learn on Friday, but the layout looks awesome. It’s probably one of the best layouts of the year in terms of being challenging for the drivers and the cars.”

After a slightly unsuccessful Abu Dhabi Grand Prix for Mark Webber and Red Bull, the Milton Keynes-based outfit will have the chance to clinch both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships this weekend at the United States Grand Prix. This could provide the fans with a historical inaugural race around the Circuit of the Americas, as Red Bull aim for glory in Texas.
