Kubica tops wet practice in Brazil
Ahead of Vettel and Hamilton
Practice for the Brazilian Grand Prix concluded this morning with a final 60-minute session.
As expected the weather conditions dramatically changed in Sao Paulo. Heavy showers yesterday evening and this morning had left the track damp.
The drivers tackled this final practice session with full wet tyres. They sampled the conditions at the start and then came back into the pits. Timo Glock was the first to embark on a timed lap and set a 1’24’’642 to start with.
Heidfeld soon joined him on the board and set a 1’23’’897. The session got busier with just under 45 minutes remaining. Intermediates tyres quickly became the norm and lap times consistently improved.
Halfway through the session, Fernando Alonso was leading from Lewis Hamilton and Mark Webber. Rosberg and Hulkenberg completed the top five. Local driver Felipe Massa then took over at the front with a 1’19’’735, while Vettel moved up to P4.
Minutes later, the Red Bull driver took over at the front.
Hamilton closed on Vettel’s best time in the dying moments of the session, but both of them were pipped by Renault’s Robert Kubica. The Pole set a fastest 1’19’’191 to conclude practice on top.
Vettel was 2nd fastest, Hamilton 3rd. Massa and Alonso completed the top five. Webber was 11th fastest.
