Jerez Test: Massa leads the way

Formula One’s 2nd official test of the year started this morning at Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.

The eleven teams present – HRT decided to skip this test and head to Monza for some filming work with Pirelli next week – will be testing for four consecutive days.

Showing their support for the injured Robert Kubica, the teams all had a ‘get well soon’ message written in Polish on the engine cover or wings of their cars.

The new McLaren MP4-26, Force India VJM04 and Virgin Racing MVR-02 had their first official outing today. The three teams completed several installation laps and lengthy systems checks in the morning.

At midday, Felipe Massa had the fastest time and was leading from Sergio Perez and Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian was on duty this morning but will hand over the wheel of the Scuderia Toro Rosso STR6 to Jaime Alguersuari in the afternoon.

Testing will continue until 5pm.
