Jenson Button endured a frustrating qualifying session for tomorrow’s Korean Grand Prix, with the 2009 World Champion only managing 11th fastest after being eliminated after Q2. Due largely the yellow flags in the final sector, Button was unable to redeem his mistake made during an earlier lap in which the Briton locked up.

After being tipped at possibly qualifying on the front two rows, Jenson Button was understandably downcast after an uncompetitive qualifying result. The Briton will start tomorrow’s 55-lap race alongside future McLaren team-mate Sergio Perez, and will be striving to complete a clean opening lap throughout the first two tight left-handed corners.

Initially, Jenson Button made a minor mistake in an earlier lap by locking up in the first sector and therefore running wide. The 32-year-old was then unable to make up for his earlier error throughout the final sector on his last lap in Q2, as yellow flags fluttered due to Daniel Ricciardo’s stricken Toro Rosso. This saw Button only manage 11th, and with the checkered flag already out signaling the end of the session, Jenson Button subsequently failed to progress to the top ten shootout for the first time since the British Grand Prix earlier in the year.

“I locked up in the final sector on my first Q2 lap, ran wide and had to go down to first gear – losing quite a lot of time in the process – so I reckon there was easily a couple of tenths that I could have had there.” Explained Jenson Button, after a tough qualifying session. “Then, on my final Q2 run, I lost time because of the yellow flags. I knew I could have gained a couple of extra tenths in that final sector, but as things panned out I couldn’t improve because of the yellows. It’s just one of those things, but I’ll go forward from here tomorrow.”

Jenson Button has failed to finish on the podium at the Korean Grand Prix throughout its relatively short time on the calendar, and looks set to continue that unimpressive stat this weekend. With overtaking not entirely easy around the 5.615km lap, Jenson Button looks set to endure yet another difficult 55-lap race tomorrow.
